Should you build or buy a pc?

Image result for PCs

It is time for me to answer one of the biggest questions about a PC. Should i buy a PC or build a PC?

So now you want to get a new PC for your workstation, great! And you look at the PC section in the computer store and you see tons of pre-built computers, also the ridiculously high price tag! So you always wonder about building your own custom PC. Here are some pros and cons about building vs buying a PC:

Price:

Everyone asks this question. The answer is, it depends. On low end PC's it's better to buy one than to build as the savings are minimal. For beefier PC's meant for gaming you should build one as it will save you a lot in the long run! You could probably make a pc that beats the xbox and ps4 for $400!

As you can see, the cybertron PC doesn't even have a SSD!

Warranty:

*sigh*... if you order a pc you will always see the "If this sticker is ripped, your warranty is voided" that is always stuck half on the back and on the side case so if you tried to open it your warranty would be void. Great thing about building pc's is the fact that every single part has warranty! Also, because you bought the case you don't need to worry about ripping a seal or something, so you can customize it as much as you want :)

Specs:

As you know low end PC's are... well... low end but as you can see in the picture that kind of pc is actually kind of a bargain! Even though it is very underpowered you still get a lot of bang for you buck, on the other side you would need to give an arm and a leg for something that you could build yourself for less.

Final Answer:

For Low End PC's: Buy

For Mid End PC's: Buy or Build, no difference

For High End PC's: Buy!

Warning to all pc users! Delete your antivirus!

YUP... you read that right. An Ex-Mozilla Employee found that alot of popular antiviruses have security holes that can let hackers inject malware into your pc, like a command execution flaw found in Trend Micro's antivirus. Some antiviruses even block safe programs! For example, I tried logging into minecraft and for some reason it kept timing out the session. After weeks of searching finding nothing i decided to turn off my Avast and as a miracle minecraft was fully loaded! IDK about you people but if you want an AV that "protects" you from malware by making you stop playing your games i would rather get my hard drive fried by a nasty virus than consider adding security measures. Thankfully, Microsoft's security essentials doesn't have these kind of bugs! It's free, lightweight runs in your background and doesn't interrupt you gameplay because of a "Potentially unwanted program"

So kids: Don't trust big companies! They just take your money and throw you around like a bag full of potatoes.

Windows 7,8,10 for $20?!

Yup... you read that right.

No joke... well here is the site.

Thanks to Kinguin we can now get windows keys for cheap!

Disclaimer: I am not in anyway sponsored by Kinguin! I am just showing you a way you can get cheap windows keys without giving an arm and a leg for it!

Good thing about kinguin that it supports alot of payment options like Bitcoin (Hurray for bitcoin users like me!). The way kinguin works is they order keys from official sites or they let sellers make their own offers. Now most of you will probably think this is a scam, well it isn't! Kinguin actually offers buyer protection fee you can include in your purchase for about $1 so if a shady seller scams you you can file a support ticket and they will assist you. Over 90% of my purchases were legit and the rest i was scammed i got all my money back thanks to kinguin's fast responses!

What are you waiting for?! Get your keys while they are still in stock!

Ninite - Easiest way to install software!

This will make you find all your software for 10x less time!

You install windows on a new computer. Then comes the most grueling and time-wasting park... finding all the software. Well we have something in store that can help you for free!

This website gives you a list of software you can check you want installed, then it will compile a program that will install it all without any user interaction!!!

Pretty nice! You can go make yourself a cup of coffee while this is installing and that way you need 0 effort! Also, if you want to check for updates, just run the installer again and done! Also it is a small program, and by small i mean <10 MB in size!

However... you need an internet connection.

Here is the tutorial:

1. Go to Ninite.com

2. Check all the apps you want in your package

3. Press Get Your Ninite

4. After it finished installing, run it press any button if needed and let it sit!

Good thing about this program is that it will skip downloads if your os is unsupported or you an error occurs so you dont need to worry about anything.

If you want it to work offline you need to buy Ninite Pro which offers more apps and also you can install it on all pc on the same network! It's $50 a month but you can prepay $600 for a whole year and it will work for up to 25 machines, or you can pay 100/month or 1200/year if you want it for 50 machines.

More RAM or Faster RAM?

Random Access Memory, one of the core components of you computer. While todays computers have an average 4-8 GB of RAM in the future we will need to use more RAM as technology becomes more and more complex. So here's how it goes... you go to the computer store and go to where the ram is, and you see 4 specific specifications:

Type | Latency | Frequency | Amount |

For now we will throw out Latency since it doesn't affect ram that much.

Type

You have DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and the new DDR4

The type ram can define how efficient ram is, for example DDR2 produces less heat and uses less electricity than DDR and so on, also because of that, also each type can have different speeds as the way they are designed are different.

Frequency

This is measured in MHz and it is pretty the speed of your RAM. Higher frequency means it takes less time for your processor to access your ram so in theory you get higher access times and more responsive programs. Also the type of ram plays a role here, since each time has a maximum frequency limit.

The only thing we should be looking at is the Data Rate and the voltage, as you can see with each generation ram gets faster and uses less power!

Amount

This defines how much actual memory the ram stick has, most sticks nowadays had 4GB per stick or even 8GB! Usually AAA title video games need 8 GB, 12GB some even 16GB! (I'm looking at you Battlefield 1!), for now 8 GB is fine if your an average gamer,

The Final Question: More RAM or Faster RAM?

Answer: More RAM

For now faster ram doesn't necessarily change the performance (I've seen some small improvements for just 5-6 fps but i don't think that wont make the gameplay any smoother). For now aim for more RAM. Only when ram reaches speeds of 5000+ MHz then we will see a difference! For now that's it!

Fun Facts!

Because RAM is Volatile, when it loses power it's data is permanently lost. However before hard disks were made old devices used ram with bateries inside them to keep them online as seen in the Apple Newton MessagePad 110, where it had a backup battery to make sure data wasn't lost.
